The Iti Rearea bird is a very unique bird, unlike all the others that fly straight to the top of the tree the Iti Rearea bird jumps from branch to branch till it reaches the top. And that is why this New Tamariki/Rangatahi group has gone under its name. This Roopu will be run by Herewini Lloyd, And Minamairangi Martin. Members of Te Raranga Whanui. We look to take a step by step (branch by branch) process of learning the art of kapa haka, as well as creating a new pathway into the world of kapa haka here in Poihakena Sydney. For the youth growing up here in Australia it is easy to lose your cultural background but this Program is designed to help maintain it.
In saying that, this is a performance development group. We look to push the boundaries of learning kapa haka for young Tamariki/Rangatahi. With Tu-Toa (Mau-rakau Wananga) happening here in Poihakena also to help maintain our culture and teach Young Boys Mau-raukau this is a great connector for both boys and Girls to home Aotearoa.
With 2014 Te Matatini Australian Regionals being held here in Sydney we look to get the group ready to get up on the same stage their Mums, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Uncles and Auntys will compete on. As well as many other shows in the year to come.
Not only will your kids be taught the art of kapa haka and performance but also many other things Maori games, Karakia (prayer), Maori Customs, Friendship and also how to have fun
Workshops will be held later on as this kaupapa builds, including making Costumes, making Poi, Making Rakau and much more.
This is just a little insight into this kaupapa and also to see what the interest is like. Questions are more than welcome to be asked.
Kia ora Whanau
